Insightful Tuesday: Are You "Doing the Work"—or Just Avoiding Real Life?

In the age of mental health awareness, it’s become a badge of honor to say, “I’m doing the work.”
Therapy, shadow work, reparenting, inner child healing—the language is powerful. But here’s the question no one’s asking:

👉 Are we really healing… or are we hiding behind the process?

When Healing Becomes a Distraction from Living

“Doing the work” is essential. But sometimes, the process becomes so consuming that we forget to actually live.
We micromanage our trauma responses, overanalyze every emotion, and seek validation through how self-aware we’ve become.

But self-awareness without integration? That’s just another form of avoidance.

Ask yourself:

  • Do you feel safe only in therapy spaces—but disconnected outside of them?

  • Do you struggle to enjoy life because you’re always "working" on yourself?

  • Are you delaying decisions, relationships, or joy until you’re “fully healed”?

If so, you might not be healing. You might be hiding in the healing.

The Pressure to Be a “Perfectly Healed” Person

Social media glorifies healing. We scroll past aesthetic posts about boundaries, burnout, inner child wounds—and suddenly, healing has become an identity.

But true growth isn’t always pretty. It’s messy, unfiltered, and it doesn’t always come with a journal prompt and sage stick.

💚 You don’t have to be 100% healed to live, love, or be worthy of joy.
Waiting until you're "done healing" is like waiting for the ocean to be still before you swim. Life doesn't pause for perfection.

Integration > Obsession

What would it look like if we stopped performing our healing and started practicing it?

✔️ Laughing without guilt
✔️ Letting go without labeling it a “trauma response”
✔️ Choosing connection—even when it feels vulnerable
✔️ Being okay with not knowing the psychological root of every emotion

Healing is important—but living is the point.
